Linda Earl, 63, and her grandson Drake Earl, 10, pose for a photo together inside Linda’s home. Back on Aug. 26, 2015 Linda and Drake were struck by a car while crossing the intersection of East Third Avenue and North Lawler Street. Drake received severe liver and spleen damage, as well as minor facial fractures, a broken nose, a fractured shoulder blade, fractured wrist, fractured pelvis and tailbone. Linda eventually woke from a coma as a result of severe head trauma from the accident, as well as a broken tibia. Authorities respond to a crash Thursday afternoon near mile marker 317, two miles west of Mount Vernon, on Interstate 90. According to Tony Mangan with the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, a truck driven by James Gleason, 51, of North Maple Grove, Minnesota, was pulling a camper westbound on I-90. As it passed another vehicle, it got caught in a wind gust and started to fish-tail. Both the truck and camper rolled and ended up on their tops in the driving lane. It took about two hours to clear the road. There were no injuries and seat belts were used. The incident was investigated by the South Dakota Highway Patrol, and the Davison County Sheriff’s Office also was on the scene. (Evan Hendershot/Republic)
